trea|son «TREE zuhn», noun.
1. the action of being false to one's country or ruler. Helping the enemies of one's country is treason. According to the United States Constitution, “Treason against the United States shall consist only in levying war against them or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort” (Article 3, Section 3). An act against any individual does not constitute treason. SYNONYM(S): See syn. under disloyalty. (Cf.disloyalty)
2. the betrayal of a trust, duty, friend, or institution; treachery: »
